Earthwater Coalition is dedicated to promoting groundwater education and helping Americans understand and protect the aquifers that supply our drinking water. Through storytelling and collaboration with scientists and water professionals, we aim to make groundwater visible and inspire aquifer stewardship and responsible water conservation for future generations.
Water sustains every community, yet the groundwater systems beneath our feet remain largely invisible to the public. Earthwater Coalition was created to help change that.
Over the next five years, Earthwater Coalition seeks to build a nationwide movement focused on understanding and protecting the aquifers that provide drinking water for millions of Americans.
Through storytelling, interviews with scientists, and educational media, Earthwater Coalition aims to bring groundwater science into everyday conversations.
We will develop an interactive national aquifer map that allows Americans to discover the groundwater systems beneath their communities and better understand where their drinking water comes from.
Through the Voices of the Aquifer interview series, Earthwater Coalition will connect the public with scientists, researchers, and water professionals working to understand and protect our water systems.
Programs such as the Earthwater Youth Ambassador Advisory Council will encourage students to learn about groundwater stewardship, environmental science, and community leadership.
By making groundwater visible and understandable, Earthwater Coalition hopes to inspire individuals, communities, and future leaders to protect the water resources that sustain life.
Water is one of the most essential resources on Earth. Understanding it is the first step toward protecting it.

I grew up believing water was infinite. Like most people, I assumed the water from the tap would always be there. However, as I began learning about aquifer stewardship and groundwater education, I realized how little most Americans understand about the water beneath their feet. This realization is what inspired the creation of Earthwater Coalition, focusing on essential water conservation efforts.

My background in wastewater treatment and water infrastructure highlighted how much of our water system remains unseen by most people. As I delved deeper into groundwater education and learned about aquifers, I recognized the fragility of these systems when neglected. Through Earthwater Coalition, I strive to raise awareness about the importance of aquifer stewardship and the collective responsibility we share in water conservation.

I have a lifelong appreciation for the natural systems that protect our water. My perspective grounds the coalition’s work in the reality that healthy aquifers begin with responsible aquifer stewardship. My involvement with Earthwater Coalition supports vital groundwater education efforts to inform communities about groundwater, conservation, and the shared responsibility we have to protect our water through effective water conservation practices.

The Earthwater Youth Ambassador Advisory Council will be a leadership program designed to engage high school students who are passionate about environmental stewardship and responsible water management.
Each year, a small group of student ambassadors will be selected to serve a one-year term advising Earthwater Coalition while participating in educational and community outreach efforts related to groundwater and aquifer protection.
Youth Ambassadors will meet periodically with Earthwater Coalition leadership to learn about groundwater science, water systems, and conservation efforts while offering their own perspective as the next generation of water stewards. Council members will also be encouraged to participate in awareness activities within their schools and communities.
At the completion of their term, each Youth Ambassador will receive a Certificate of Community Leadership and Service as well as a $1,000 scholarship award to support their future college education.
Youth Ambassadors selected for the Earthwater Youth Ambassador Advisory Council will have the opportunity to participate in meaningful educational and leadership activities focused on groundwater awareness and responsible water stewardship.
During their one-year term, Youth Ambassadors may:
• Participate in periodic virtual or in-person meetings with Earthwater Coalition leadership and guest scientists.
• Learn about groundwater systems, aquifers, water conservation, and environmental stewardship.
• Offer ideas and feedback to help guide Earthwater Coalition outreach and education initiatives.
• Help promote awareness of groundwater protection within their schools and communities.
• Develop leadership, communication, and environmental advocacy skills while serving their community.
This program is designed to inspire the next generation of water stewards and environmental leaders.
Applications for the first Earthwater Youth Ambassador Advisory Council will open soon.
Students selected for this council will have the opportunity to learn from scientists, environmental professionals, and water experts while contributing ideas that help shape the future of groundwater awareness and stewardship.
High school students interested in water stewardship are encouraged to sign up with a parent's help.
